Tony Iommi, icônico guitarrista do Black Sabbath, foi diagnosticado com câncer no sistema linfático. O músico de 63 anos, que está atualmente trabalhando em novo álbum com a formação original do Black Sabbath, teve a doença diagnosticada ainda nos primeiros estágios e por isso as expectativas são positivas.
A banda não comentou sobre os shows marcados para a turnê mundial deste ano, mas a gravação do aguardado álbum deve continuar. Por meio do Facebook, o Black Sabbath pediu aos fãs vibrações positivas para o guitarrista.
O Black Sabbath anunciou seu retorno com a formação original no dia 11/11/11, revelando também a turnê mundial e a gravação do novo álbum. A banda não se reunia desde os anos 70.

O site oficial do Black Sabbath anunciou a reunião da formação original, um álbum de inéditas produzido por Rick Rubin (o primeiro em 33 anos), uma data no Download Festival (10 de junho de 2012) e uma tour mundial a seguir.
Uma coletiva era aguardada na casa de shows Whisky A Go-Go (onde a banda fez seu primeiro show décadas atrás). Com apresentação de Henry Rolins, confirme previsto a coletiva teve inicio junto com a divulgação da reunião na internet.
Ao serem perguntados porque uma reunião agora, Iommi respondeu "Era agora ou nunca, de verdade. Temos ótima música para tocar.". Ozzy respondeu: "Já era tempo." Perguntado sobre sua expectativa para a reunião, Iommi afirmou que espera apenas "se divertir e tocar novamente com seus velhos amigos."
Rick Rubin informou que o processo de composição do novo álbum está na metade e que a banda deve começar as gravações do novo álbum de estúdio no início de 2012.
